Document Summary
Absurd = stupid and unreasonable [cambridge dictionary] The absurd = irrational and meaningless universe; human life has no ultimate meaning. Absurdism = post-wwii; based on camus" philosophy; life is inherently absurd (coined by martin esslin) Sisyphe betrayed zeus by revealing to asopos where his daughter was hidden (she was kidnapped by zeus) Zeus wants to punish him- sends hades- sisyphe imprisons. Sisyphe punishment = symbol of life as repetition, routine, purposeless, useless. Links to camus" question is life worth living?". <> (opening of myth de sisyphe) First kind of philosophical question we ask. Camus used a greek myth to develop this philosophy. Not just lack of sense but rather the human condition as meaningless yet we still look for meaning (e. g. religions, myths, science etc) Meaningless world + human false sense = the absurd. All we have is false interpretations of life.
