State capacity and regime stability: state capacity: state"s capacities to penetrate society, regulate social relations, extract resources, and appropriate or use resources in determined ways. It stabilizes both authoritarian and democratic regimes any regime possessing state capacity is less likely to break down: disavow the notion that state capacity in itself increases the chances of democratic transition. Efficient appropriation and use of resources: monopoly on violence and administrative effectiveness are likely to affect regime stability in different ways: create public order by containing anti-systemic forces, enforcing martial law. But if it only hinges on repressing means it may lead to the mass against the regime.
