We differentiate between main text and secondary text. Main text: everything that the character says, their speech etc. Secondary text: everything else (=title, list of characters, stage directions) A small overview of main text and secondary text. Comedy -> hero survives, gets married (happy ending: stage directions: Typical for shakespeare to use very few stage directions. Other people who were not a member of a company had to write more stage directions (few stage directions give much more room for the actors to interpret a scene) Internal communications system: communications between characters who act story on the stage: external communication system: everything that happens between what ever there is on the stage and the audience. Everything that happens on the stage (silence, props, etc) are meaningful. Author in connection with the production company (when we talk about communication in theatre a drama on the stage/drama as performed, the author is also close to that)
