PHYSICS 102 Lecture Notes - Lecture 28: Customer Service, Production Planning, Capacity Utilization
Lecture 1+2: chapter 1,2,3
Logistic
+ is: planning, execution and control
+ the activities of movement and placement of the people and goods
+ and also supporting activities relating the movement and placement, within the system organized to achieve
specific objectives.
+Purpose: to plan, control, organize, coordinate and implement the bridging of dimensions of time and space within
the system
7R in logistics goals:
1. Right time
2. Right place
3. Right product
4. Right quality
5. Right quantity
6. Right cost
7. Right customer
Logistic goal:
- Lower the cost
- Time-saver
- Reduce resource.
Supply chain management:
The management of the flow of goods and services, involves the movement and storage of raw materials, of work-
in-process inventory, and of finished goods from point of origin to point of consumption. Interconnected or
interlinked networks, channels and node businesses combine in the provision of products and services required by
end customers in a supply chain
Logistic planning and strategy
Three levels within an organization:
- Strategic level
- Tactical level
- Operational level
Planning is ensuring the operation will set up properly or ensuring the operation is running effectively. Planning =
strategy level and tactical level
Control is about managing the operation in a right way or making sure that operation is running efficiently. Control
= tactical level and operational level
Financial impact of logistic
- Logistic has the most influence on the profit and capital employed
- Profit can be enhanced through increasing sales and sales benefit from the provision of high and
consistent service levels
- Decrease the capital employed -> cost decrease
- Cutting the cost by the right decisions (planning) and running the operation efficiently (control)
Different between logistic and supply chain
*Logistic: talk about internal process
Logistic = materials management + distribution + transportation
Logistic mainly in tactical level- how to do thing
*Supply chain: about external and internal
Supply chain = customer + logistic + suppliers
Supply chain mainly in strategic level- planning thing
Material management:
comprises all the activities undertaken to feed the efficient flow of raw materials and semi-finished products and
accompanying the flow of data to and through the production process, and activities to achieve the most efficient
possible use of production equipment.
- production planning, material handling, inventory management, purchasing.
