There are seven different drug types, and each has its own set of effects and risks: stimulants. Drug or chemical that arouses and stimulates the brain and central nervous system. It produces a sense of euphoria and a feeling of being more awake. (increase heart rate, breathing etc), e. g. amphetamines, cocaine: depressants. Drug or chemical that diminishes and inhibits the activity of the brain and central nervous system. It causes calmness, relaxation, and sedation. (decrease heart rate, breathing etc), e. g. heroin/opiates, alcohol, barbiturates, benzodiazepines: hallucinogens. Drug or chemical that works by disrupting communication within the brain. Users report intense, rapidly shifting emotions and perceptions of things that aren"t really there.
