Document Summary

Summary; the book: international law; chapter one p. 1-20. Chapter one: foundations and structure of international law. Public international law deals with legal issues of concern to more than one state. Different from private international law= that consists of national laws that deal with conflicts of law and establish rules for the treatment of cases that involve a foreign element. International law reflects the society to which it applies. It deals with: the prevention and regulation of conflict, the principle of governing the seas and oceans, the protection of core human rights, the prevention of international crime and terrorism But actually, it is present in our everyday lives. Unlike in a domestic legal system, there is neither a legislative nor an executive branch in the international legal system. Moreover, there is no mandatory and well established procedure for the settlement of legal disputes.
