People are diverse and our goal is to understand what it means to be human. How do we understand what it means to be human. Bicultural approach- a perspective that considers the interrelationship between our biology and behavior: what we inherent from our parents and also learn. Holistic- we need to consider all aspects of a human. Comparative (cross cultural)- making comparisons among different groups of people. Ethnocentrism- belief in the inherent superiority in ones own ethnic group or culture: inferior, bad, stupid to other cultures. Cultural relativism- all cultures are viewed within their own historical and environmental context. Fieldwork- time of data collection: a lot of different looks to it. Linguistic anthropology: scientific study of language, appropriate way of speaking in certain situations, 6 to 7 thousand different languages spoken today, sociolinguistics- social language and how do we learn appropriate times to say things.
