PHYS 2101 Lecture : Lecture1 2110
Document Summary
Text: fundamentals of physics, halliday, resnick, and walker, 10th ed. Make sure you can download syllabus from moodle! Concepts will be developed through the lectures, demonstrations and class discussion. Work as part of the laser interferometer gravitational-wave observatory (ligo) collaboration (www. ligo. org). We look for gravitational waves emitted by astronomical events (stars exploding or colliding, for example). It"s sort of like a telescope that looks at gravity rather than light. I work on the detection side (quantum optics). Mixture of power point and chalk board. Power point slides are available on moodle. Quiz at beginning or middle of class (sometimes, about once a week) Ryan gibson, wednesday and thursday 6-7:30pm, coates 212. Wileyplus problems due wednesday at 11:59pm ( rst one due sep 3). Written homework due friday ( rst one is sep 5) at 3pm at physics main of ce (room 202). 100 points each, 3 1-hour tests (sep 29, oct 20, nov 10, 6-7 pm)
