Childhood amnesia- most people can"t recall before the age of 3. Sense of self is necessary to create memories, this is called autobiographical memory. His hippocampi are about half the size of a healthy brain"s. Can"t imagine the past or the future. We piece together memories to imagine the future. People are like time travellers , we can mentally travel into the past or the future, john is stuck in the present. By the age of 9, we have a full understanding of time. Language, advanced problem solving skills, and memory are key to our thought processes. We cannot delete memories, and we remember memories that are more important to us. By middle age, mental state begins to decline. White matter- cables that connect in the brain. Blood flow becomes impaired over time, this damages the brain. When a person has amnesia, toxic proteins are built up. Memory may just wear out over time.
