PSYC 2000 Lecture : Conditioning Notes
Document Summary
Involuntary behavior elicits an involuntary behavior to a stimulus that doesn"t normally elicit that behavior. Unconditioned stimulus: stimulus that normally triggers a response. Neutral stimulus: stimulus that before conditioning does not naturally bring about a response. Conditioned stimulus: originally neutral; comes to trigger a conditioned response after being paired with an unconditioned stimulus. Conditioned response: learned response to the conditioned stimulus. Extinction: when the us no longer follows the cs, the cr starts to decrease and eventually dies out. Stimulus generalization: when new stimulus is similar to old. Stimulus discrimination: ex: dog responds only to your car. Conditioned taste aversion: nausea or aversive response to a response because it was once followed by a nauseous reaction after only one exposure. Stimulus substitution: cs subbing for us through pairing close in time. Cognitive perspective: expectancy about the approach of the us is adaptive. Seeks to change the liking of a stimulus by pairing it with other positive or negative stimuli.
