PSYC 2000 Lecture : The History Of Psychology NOTES
Document Summary
Forces in our universe: doppler effect believed that red shifted light comes from distant galaxies, which led to the expanding universe theory, the first hydrogen and helium atoms formed when the big bang happened about. Magnetic field: the earth produces a magnetic field that deflects solar wind and cosmic rays. The atmosphere: the atmosphere is mostly nitrogen and oxygen, air pressure decreases with increasing elevation. Important concepts: earth"s surface consists of plates moving relative to one another called plate tectonics, wegener"s evidence for continental drift, theory of plate tectonics, role of paleomagnetism and sea-floor spreading, plate boundaries, motions, geologic processes, and geologic features. Glacial evidence: wegener discovered late paleozoic glacial deposits found on 5 continents. Paleoclimate evidence: wegener discovered long lines of evidence that tropics, deserts, and glaciated regions once existed at parts of the continents that would fit together. Geologic evidence: distinctive rock belts and mountain ranges were noted to have existed across different continents.
