The navy, i think, who have done so much for us, have at least an equal claim with any other set of men, for all the comforts and all the privileges which any home can give. Sailors work hard enough for their comforts, we must all allow. (p 21) the importance of the navy in society as well as in anne"s life. They disrupt the aristocratic system by earning large amounts of wealth and achieving a high status rather than being born into it. Anne respects the navy maybe for this reason but mainly because wentworth is part of it.
