Document Summary

Particles on the wave vibrate perpendicular to the direction that the wave is moving. Particles on these waves vibrate parallel to the direction that the wave is moving (through a series of compressions & rarefactions) Wavelength - the distance from a point on one wave to the identical point on the next wave (crest to crest) Frequency (f) - number of waves passing each second. Period (t) - time for one wave to pass in sec. Amplitude - maximum displacement of a wave from the rest position or the height of the wave or how large the wave it. Velocity - product of frequency & wavelength. Properties of waves: refraction, reflection, diffraction, impedance interference. Reflection - waves will bounce off barriers an angle equal to the angel they strike the barrier. -the angles are measured to the "normal" which is drawn perpendicular to the surface (barrier)
