Diegesis: the world of the film"s story, the world inhabited by the film"s characters: in casablanca, rick and rick"s caf are diegetic elements. Something diegetic (such as a character) is part of the story world. Plot: the film"s presentation of the story how that story is going to be told: scenes in the plot of my short film, the end of a professor , single shot: the dean yells, you"re suspended, becker! . I go to o"rourke"s and get drunk. (flashback: the image dissolves, a violin score rises up: i burst into the classroom twenty minutes late and yell out i"m sorry! Master of none and then traffic was a nightmare! but the room is empty. (as i scream, a wailing choir joins the violins: a student tells a dean that i skipped class. (dissolve out of flashback) At o"rourke"s, i get into a fight and get arrested.
