Research reveals that when people perceive others as attractive, they treat them better than those viewed as less attractive. The process of choosing which sensory information to focus on. Selection is required because we perceive more information than we can process. Occurs when the individual only attends to a narrow range of the full array of sensory information available. It is not a random process as selection depends on identity, features, goals, etc. Research suggest people are more likely to remember comments that are negative, inappropriate, or violate expectations: organisation: Refers to the cognitive process used to organise information by placing it into larger grouping of information. A label is assigned to a category based on one"s perception of the category i. e. jock or nerd. Example george bush"s categorisation of iran, iraq, and north. Labels often lead too stereotypes or overgeneralisations about attributes of a group to which members belong.
