By nature, ap is a gathering of many different writers in many different places. Ap style gives consistent guidelines for the media in terms of grammar, spelling, punctuation, and language usage, keeping with best practices of consistency, clarity, accuracy, and brevity. Fbi, cia, nsa, ap, gop are acceptable, but you might not want to use them without context. See alphabet soup section in the stylebook. Use figures for numbers, but write out works like feet, miles, pounds. Use hyphens to describe someone"s weight or dimensions in adjectival form. Use fewer than for things that you can count. Plurality is more than any other option. Always use figures but write out zero . E. g. one person out of five wins an election with 40 percent of the votes. Many newspapers use the oxford comma, even if ap does not, so check your rules. You generally will not get in trouble for using it.
