Check perineum, remove fecal material with wipes or washcloth. Cleanse anal area front to back, dry well. Prevent transmission of fecal microorganisms from anus to urethra or genitalia. Place a bath blanket over the patient and remove the top sheet without exposing patient. If an extremity is injured or has limited mobility, begin removal on unaffected side. If the patient has an iv and no shoulder snaps: Slide gown down arm with iv toward wrist. If pump in use, turn pump off, clamp tubing, remove tubing. Maintains sterility, patency and correct rate of infusion. Rehang bag, insert tubing into pump, unclamp tubing, turn on pump, check flow rate. Place a bath towel under head, and one over chest. Removing pillow increases access to wash ears and neck. Wash, rinse and dry face with plain. Bathe inner to outer canthus prevents secretions from entering nasolacrimal duct. warm water.
