One of the early female pioneers in the movies was from france. Alice started working as a secretary at the gaumont factory in france. The company made still photography supplies and equipment. At one point the company bought a motion picture camera. Alice created a set in her backyard and made a short film called the cabbage fairy (a fairytale about where babies come from) It was the first film that told a story. Up until this time all films were actualities, just short scenes of everyday life. Alice blache the first person to make a narrative or story film. Alice blache first female film director sent oversea to the united states to operate the new studio for her company. The location for the new gaumont studio was new jersey. Not only did alice oversee the construction of the studio and film production, she also directed her own movies.
