Concrete operational stage- stage of development that begins at about 6-11 years of age o. Child learns how various actions or operations can affect or transform those objects: understanding of conversation of properties takes place during shift from preoperational to concrete operational. Conservation- the notion that the quantitative properties of an object are invariant despite changes in the object"s appearance. Formal operational stage- stage of development that begins around 11 and lasts until adulthood: growing sophistication about thought, abstraction, and imagination. Discovering other minds: as children develop, they discover their own minds, but they also discover the minds of others. Egocentrism- the failure to understand that the world appears differently to different observers. Theory of mind- the idea that human behavior is guided by mental representations. People with autism have difficulties with these and other cognitive and social tasks.
