Iv: children and adults randomly assigned to violent films/games vs. equally exciting but non- violent films/games. Dv: measure aggression in an unconstrained setting(e. g. , recess), or a situation in which aggression could be a response (e. g. , loud noise delivered to other participant or hot- sauce amounts given to someone who doesn"t like hot sauce following provocation) Cross- sectional: the more exposure to violent media, the more aggression children engage in natural setting. Longitudinal: not done very often, but there has been found a correlation between watching violence and being aggressive later in life. There are hundreds of studies and ongoing, meta- analyses (studies of studies). Short term exposure greater immediate aggression. Long term exposure = greater long term aggression. Media violence aggression shown to be appropriate and rewarded. Obstacles to helping: pre- existing schema or any situational factors that make the event ambiguous.
