Ways should be found to reduce consumption. Arguments for the prohibition of weed were used similar to those which had been employed against something known as habish. Main criticism was smoking might be relatively harmless when done so in moderation. Observations upon the influence of the habitual use of tobacco on health, morals, and property. Such denunciations of tobacco were present until the civil war. Armies in the field demanded to be kept supplied with it.
