Levay & inah-3 (1991): the gay gene? : one nucleus in the anterior hypothalamus (inah-3) of gay men was smaller than heterosexual men"s and similar to heterosexual women, no replications. Dedipus complex: between 3 6 year olds. For males: overprotective mother, withdrawn father. Uses basic mechanisms from social learning theory. Important factors are modeling and reinforcing of specific behaviors and patterns of behavior. Operant conditioning: behavior stops negative events. Is not development and doesn"t usually consider: family, community, societal factors, cultural factors. Has not been explicitly used for sexual orientation. Sexual orientation as script or narrative: there are master scripts but we can change them. Choice: we can control aspects of our sexual orientation for ideological, political, or spiritual purposes, even our desire is under our control. Integrates biological, environmental, developmental perspectives in specific cultural and historical context. Presumes many pathways to adult sexual orientation and gender expression.
