Researchers have started to study whether fmri measurements can indicate what you are thinking or experiencing. Can i tell whether you are adding or subtracting two numbers. Brain stem- the oldest part of the brain, beginning where the spinal cord enters the skull. Thalamus- the brain" sensory switchboard, located at the top of the brainstem. It directs the messages to the sensory areas of the cortex. Cerebellum- the little brain attached to the rear of the brainstem. It helps coordinate voluntary movements and balance. Limbic system- a doughnut-shaped system of neural structures at the border of the brain stem cerebrum. Associated with emotions such as fear, aggression, and drives for food and sex.
