What is inside a person is misunderstood as coming from outside. Negative parts of the self are perceived in others. A narcissist who is ashamed of flunking college complains all the time about how stupid people are. What is outside is misunderstood as coming from. Seeing things in parents and think it"s in us. Child who was abused becomes an abuser. The child commits suicide on the same day. Doing the opposite/showing the opposite emotion of how you really feel. Humans internalize mental representations of (early) relationships. They then transfer these relationship patterns to other relationships later in life. Also, creating or seeking out relationships that resemble past ones. Defined by a an excessive need to be taken care of by others.
