These predictors are more important than the type of treatment. Excessive reward-related behaviors over which a person feels little or no control. To the point of impairment or distress. Repeated reinforcement cycles and use of behavior as poor coping mechanism result in uncontrollable repeated use. Yet may not show pharmacological tolerance and withdrawal. Needs to gamble with increasing amounts of money to achieve the desired excitement. Is restless or irritable when attempting to cut down or stop gambling. Has made repeated unsuccessful efforts to control gambling. After losing money gambling, often continues/returns to gambling to try and make money back (often betting larger amounts) Experience of reality is warped in either one"s senses or beliefs. Changes in the way a person thinks, feels, and relates to others and outside environment. Can present very differently for different people. Dimensional and varying in time scale (continual or episodic) Highly debilitating: low quality of life, job/school difficulties, impaired relationships, very hard for families.
