Be associated w/ distress or impairment in social/occupational functioning. Not be due to drug, substance, or medical condition. Must not be better explained by another diagnosis. Intense fear or anxiety about specific object/situation. Object is actively avoided or endured with very intense fear. Fear is out of proportion to actual danger. Persistent avoidance of many kinds of situations. Crowded streets, shops, enclosed places, public transportation. May require another person to always accompany them. Safety object: anxiety-reducing object or person that enables emotional avoidance; prevents full exposure and promotes disorder :( Better to go through panic in the store and endure it, buy all items, etc. Primarily afraid that there will be no way to escape or get help. Must be followed by 1+ months of: Maladaptive change in behavior related to the attacks (avoidance) Panic attacks cannot be due to another disorder.
