Seizures: abrupt, abnormal excessive uncontrolled electrical discharges of neurons in the brain, can cause changes in loc, changes in motor or sensory function, or changes in behavior, epileptic and non-epileptic. Epileptic are from a brain abnormality that triggers the seizures. Non-epileptic are caused by a stimulus outside the brain: assess out patient for risk factors. Acute fever especially < two years of age. Exposure to flashing lights: types of seizures. Partial (starts in a specific region of the brain: simple: no loss of consciousness, complex: loss of consciousness. Generalized (affect the whole brain: last 1-2 minutes. Absence: most common in children, loc lasting seconds, child may have a blank stare, child will return to baseline with no adverse reaction or sequela, nursing care during seizure. Position on side or guide to floor if standing. Do not: restrain child, open jaw. Careful observation for seizure details: seizure details.
