It is organized and dramatized in a religious way: Teaches qualities that are religious in nature (perseverance, courage, sacrifice) To understand sport, we need to look at: Can be viewed as an attitude of freedom . or a release from demands of everyday life. Does not produce products (like work), yet absorb us fully (often more so than work) All children play = their most basic form of behavior. Through play, children acquire much of their early knowledge about the physical & social world. When sport is most playful, it is most meaningful to participants.
