Stereotype - a generalization about a group of people in which identical characteristics are assigned to virtually all members of the group. Discrimination - differential actions toward members of specific social groups. Explicit prejudice - prejudice that can be overtly expressed. Implicit prejudice - prejudice that the individual may not be aware of and cannot overtly express. Implicit association test (iat) - measures implicit prejudice. Association between positive and negative words and group. Strong association strong attitude shorter reaction time. Just-world phenomenon: the tendency for people to believe the world is just and that people therefore get what they deserve and deserve what they get. Blaming the victim - tendency to blame individuals (make dispositional attributions) for their victimization. Realistic conflict theory - idea that limited resources lead to conflict between groups and result in increased prejudice and discrimination.
