Document Summary
Excitation or firing or activation of neurons input on the receptors which travels to the brain and is processed. Perception: psychological response an individual"s unique, conscious, personal in subjective experience or reaction to a given stimulus. Unique interpretation of raw sensory input received from receptors. All stimuli in the environment are available to the observer"s 5 sensory modalities. Selective attention to certain stimuli occurs. (not all stimuli are processed equally) Stimulation of receptors eventually leads to an internal mental representation (recognition) The five senses: vision, audition, touch, gustation, olfaction. Receptors are specialized neurons that respond to specific kinds of physical energy and transform that input into an electrochemical message. Neural transduction- the receptors in our sensory organs converted physical energy(stimulation) into electrochemical messages and that information is transmitted to receiving areas in the brain the transformation of stimulus energy into neural impulses.
