Document Summary
Rapid presentation of language needs to be quickly analyzed. In lecture, not hard to pull out certain voices. Pull out voice, and then pull out certain language stuff. Auditory cortex also has to look for more complex factors of stimuli. Music when you look for melody (complex pattern of pitches) and you have to be aware. We seem to be interested/pre-set for speech perception. You ears seem to particularly amplify the frequency sections for speech. Same speech sounds are different depending on spoken context but perceived as same sound. Speech sounds change rapidly w. r. t. each other and the order is crucial. 8 months, before the age, babies can hear differences in sounds that can make different meaning in different language. After 8 months, if they are not exposed, they will not hear differences any more. Patients with let temporal lobe damage have difficulty. Complain that people are talking too fast (like learning to new language)
