Greatest increase in size - first 2 years (up to five) Sutures of the skull: sagittal suture, lambdoidal suture, squamosal suture, coronal suture. Combo or intramembranous oss and endochrondral oss. The fetal skull is about (2 at most) - (9 mos) the height of the skeleton. An adult skull is about 1/8th the height of the skeleton. The fetal facial bone forms the of the fetal skull. The adult facial bones form 1/3rd of the adult skull. The fetal skull has little, or no, paranasal sinuses. The adult skull does not have paranasal sinuses. The fetal skull has no mastoid or styloid process. The adult skull does have mastoid and styloid process. The fetal skull has fontanels (some syndesmoses) The adult skull has sutures joining flat bones only.
