Document Summary

System used by the health resources services administration. Professional schools to recruit and offer programs to support underserved areas. Too few primary care providers: md, np, pa. Medical residents receive little training in preventive medicine and public health. Increase the number of graduate medical education (gme) training positions with priorities given to primary care and general surgery and to states with the lowest resident physician-to-population ratios. Poor availability of residency programs in rural and underserved areas. Establish teaching health centers, (community-based, ambulatory patient care centers), that are eligible for payments for the expenses associated with operating primary care residency programs. Provide state grants to providers in medically underserved areas; train and recruit providers to serve in rural areas. Growing need for interdependence among all health professionals. The care team is expanding to include more non-md providers to complement medical skills. And of course nps and pas as team leads. People grow older, their chance of developing health conditions increase.
