AJ 102 Lecture Notes - Lecture 7: Los Angeles Police Department, Bernard C. Parks
Document Summary
Detective russell poole has been an investigator for the los angeles police. In 1998, lapd officers assigned him an investigation into the alleged beating of. Ismael jimenez, a reputed gang leader, and a possible cover-up of the incident. During his research, he found a pattern of violent allegations from the ramparts. Gang leaders told poole and his friends that they were threatened, attacked and coerced by a number of officersto supply untraceable weapons. The beating came because jimenez wasn"t providing a pistol to the officers. Poole found a package of half-dozen realistic plastic toy weapons in a sweep of the house of officer rafael perez, a member of the anti-gang task force. He concluded that some of the division"s officerswere "vigilante officers," and ordered further inquiry. When poole notified his superiors of what had been revealed by his investigation, the then lapd chief bernard parks ordered poole to restrict his investigation strictly to the jimenez beatings.
