In chapter 3, kinsley discusses the individual healers and the rituals performed on patients with illnesses. Eduardo calderon palomino was a shaman in the city of trujillo. He completed a divination ceremony in which a guinea pig is killed and inspected for signs of patient"s problems (kinsley, 23). A ceremony would be set up, and the patient will participate in the ritual by ingesting hallucinogenic drugs so that they can enter the spirit world in a state of consciousness. He uses a san pedro cactus to make a beverage so that he can communicate with the spirit world. He can see and manipulate to help heal the patient who is sick. For example, eduardo took a sword and cut around the patient. He explained to the woman that he banished the spirit from interaction and healed her from the evil spirit.
