Is more specific of his childhood, than matthew & luke give (which give only mostly his public life) Infancy gospels gives a different perspective that fills in the gaps in the canonical gospels (matthew & luke & mark & john: authorship: 150 c. e, portrays jesus as violent versus benevolent, he breaks law. He is not without sin (as a child: the infancy gospel of thomas: extracanonical character, redefines miracles , presents jesus as divine, but irresponsible. A child at heart: likened to the divine priestly creator, collects water into pools. In mark, jesus withers tree: b/c it doesn"t give him fruit.
