Poll taxes - fee to vote blacks had run off into the woods b/c they were being hunted & lived off the land no money b/c no job. White primaries - primaries where only whites can vote. South despises the republicans south became the democratic. Literacy tests - test to read & write. Blacks who lived in their slums had no schools they aren"t educated.
