Social psychology - the study of how individuals think, feel, and behave in a social context. Social influence - the effect that the words, actions, or mere presence of others have on ou thoughts, feelings, attitudes, or behaviors. Power of the situation - failure to take the situation into account when making judgments expressing attitudes, or behaving. Power of social interpretation - people"s behavior is influenced by their interpretation of the social environment/the way you interpret a situation. Focus is on the individual in the context of a social situation. Cyclists bike faster when biking with someone rather than alone or with a stop. Social facilitation - can result in increase/decrease in performance depending on situ. First social psych books written in early 20th century. Reactions to wwii generated a whole line of research. Gordon allport (1954) and the nature of prejudice. Hans the horse would answer by stomping a # of times and then stopping.
