Classroom climate: the arrangement of tables and chairs, the availability of tools and resources (painting supplies, computers, etc. ), and the interest-engaging use of bulletin boards. But even more important is the psychological environment. Sense of community in the classroom: a sense that they and their students share common goals, are mutually respectful and supportive of one another"s efforts, and believe that every- one makes an important contribution to classroom learning. Belongingness: students see themselves as important and valued members of the classroom. Withitness: they know and their students know that they know what students are doing at all times. Sense of school community: students should consistently get two messages from teachers: (1) All faculty members are working together to help students become informed and productive citizens and (2) students can and should help and support one another.
