Areas of emphasis/schools of thought within psychology: behaviorism: scientific psychology should study only observable behavior, Cognitive psychology emerged out of response to strict behaviorism: social psychology: influenced by world war one and the efforts to understand racism, genocide, mass persuasion of people, etc.
