Police brutality- the intentional use of excessive force. Any force beyond what is necessary to arrest a suspect and keep police and bystanders safe. Probable cause- to believe that the suspect poses a significant threat of death or serious physical injury. The use of deadly force against a subject is the most intrusive type of seizure possible. Grass eaters- officers who accept payoffs that the routines of police work bring their way (small gratuities, soliciting small payments, etc. ) Meat eaters0 officers who actively use their power for personal gain (protecting drug rings, shaking down drug dealers, etc) Bail- sum of money or property specified by a judge that the defendant must protect to the court in order to gain pretrial release. Bail will be forfeited if the defendant does not appear in court as scheduled. No constitutional right to be released on bail. Starting to be issued for more serious offenses.
