Informal rules for what actions are acceptable subculture for police officers is not inherently a good or bad thing. Some argue that the police subculture is unique because of the nature of police work, To be effective officers need citizens to voluntarily submit to these actions. Thus, establishing and maintaining authority is a major of police officers.
