Ppl with high self esteem less willing to seek help; when they get unsolicited help they feel bad. More likely to receive social support though. Norm of reciprocity: people usually give back to those who have helped them. Norm of social responsibility: obligation to help. We react negatively to receiving help when it makes us feel inferior and dependant on the helper. We react negatively to receiving help if the help comes from people similar to us, especially on tasks we care about: peer tutoring programs are a problem bc of this. People react negatively if they feel that they don"t have a way to repay for the help.
