Three domain model: more accurate model of life on earth, bacteria, archaea, eukarya, all three domains are monophyletic, diversity within the domains is striking, odd what is technically considered to be similar. Possible upcoming changes to the three domain model: ribosomes have revealed that archaeans and eukarya are not equally related, as they appear to be on the tree (sister taxa) 10-5-16: eukaryotes and eocytes (a subset of archaea), or dawn cells share an 11-amino acid insert in a protein called ef1-alpha, protein that binds trna and ribosomes. Luca: presence is suggested by the fact that all life shares some traits, traits shared by all life forms evolved before the luca, last universal common ancestor, ancestor of everything around us. The study of diversity: two facts, traits differ between groups on the tree, we will spend more time on groups we know more about. Differences between eukaryotes and prokaryotes leads to what defines eukaryotes.
