Repression hypothesis: repressed thoughts and feelings that affect our behavior are processed through our dreams. Activation-synthesis hypothesis: we seek patterns in random neural firings, so sleep is for synthesis: random neural activity: trying to make sense of things. Problem solving hypothesis: we have dream to cope with anxiety and to deal with problems and stress. Memory consolidation: babies use dreams in rem in order to consolidate memories and process. Insomnia: inability to sleep, inadequate or unrestful sleep.
