Document Summary
Two major problems in establishing the source of african traditions in antiquity 1. the loss of sources 2. undeciphered documents. Literary gaps in time and the second in our inability to provide written documents for every area of the continent. Two types of undeciphered sources 1. commonly known but undeciphered 2. lesser known sacred and religious texts. Ancient africans believes their deity djehuti (associated wth wisdom and knowledge) invented writing. Used writing initially for the purpose of identification. Jean francois champollion deciphered egyptian language in 1823. Rosetta stone - one of the most significant documents from african content. Two egyptian scripts - hieroglyphics and hieratic. European writers attempted to make the ancoent egyptians white in order to discredit the cilivzing role of the african continent. Frank sowden jr. applied heavy arayn eurocentrism of africans in antiquity. Egypt is the most important civilization of antiquity. Greek scholars aid ancient egyptians were black.
