Document Summary

Missouri crisis: this resounding event in history was the debate over which side, per se, Missouri would take when it petitioned to be a state in 1819. The northern and southern states were separated from the fact that slavery was rampant in the south while the north called themselves free. The main crisis was if missouri would tip the tied states to either more pro/anti- slavery. Eventually, the south gained a new member and america gained a pro-slave name. Missouri compromise of 1820: this compromise came about after multiple disagreements within the government and the states on whether or not missouri should be permitted to be a slave state. Then an agreement came to take form with the following terms: 1. ) Missouri would be allowed to be a slave state by congress. Maine would become a state and also be a free state to balance out the missouri border.
