For years, clovis thought to be first americans. Were there people pre-clovis? mtdna haplogroups (world wide) and migration founder effect (a kind of genetic drift). 13,500-13,000ya, first widespread evidence for people in americas: paleoindians. Paleoindian fluted points found n. america to panama (clovis) Now: paleoindian-age people also fished, hunted small animals, gathered plants.
