Risk factors: predict that a group will not thrive/ do well in environment. Homelessness, poverty, neighborhood resources, violence, substance use disorder. Thrive: goals/aspirations, self-confidence, self-supporting (resources), maintain a standard of living, want participation/contributions. Contributions to success: medicare, social security, availability of jobs, affordable care act, increased minimum wage, opportunity for education (scholarships, merit scholarships, grants). Hinderance to success: no income, can"t meet basic needs, academic struggles, illegal activities, sexual activity (teens), truancy, involved with violence, drug use, detached to community. Protective factors: positive family relationships, community activities, pro-social groups, pro- social friendships, educational attachment, supportive adults (just 1), social skills. Important to know these in order to promote positive outcomes. Universal application: can apply to everyone regardless of situation. Universal prevention: doesn"t need a problem to have this be applicable.
