PSY 301 Lecture Notes - Lecture 19: Internal Validity, Covariance
Document Summary
Dv: the thing that is measured for a result i. Control variable: variable that tries to decrease impact of others factors on result. Design confound: other factors that impact result, varies systematically. Independent groups: each person is only exposed to one independent variable. Within-groups: each person is exposed to all independent variables. Mixed: each person is exposed to two of the independent variables but not all. Find the average of each one and see if they vary. Comparison group is needed so that you"re not just basing it off of your own experiences. Helps to eliminate threats to internal validity. Observer bias: when observers see what they expect to see. Demand characteristics: participants guess what the research study is about to change their behavior in that direction. Placebo effects: expecting to get better helps one get better. Double-blind: neither researcher or participant knows which group they are in.
